Postcard from the Great Salt Lake

The sky is an impossible
blue. If you were here,
you'd shield your eyes
and refuse to look.
The lake has a thick crust
of brine this time of year
that shimmers like
diamonds under harsh light.
The winter air is merciless.
It reminds me of you.
