This Moment: July 10, 2011-Oahu, Hawaii 6:59 P.M.
All roads lead home. Here on the island, roads and landmarks have become familiar. I claim them as my own knowing I will return to this place in dreams. Ukulele music floats through the open deck doors mixed with bird chatter, palm leaves rubbing against the wind, and the sibilant shu-shu-shus of ocean waves advancing and retreating. Framed by two palm trees, a woman sits on the sand. A man walks behind her. The sun has dipped below the horizon, yet still lends is light in pastel hues. A sweet masculine voice singing La 'Elima, and though I don't know the meaning of the words, I feel them. Sixty years ago my father walked these roads in sailor whites.
